Met up with David on the 26th of Feb to discuss progress, which hadn't been a lot. I mainly filled up the Ethics Application Form, and brought the incomplete form to check in with David on how to answer certain questions which had stumped me. Finally completed the survey questions and audio clips edit and sent everything in to the ethics committee on the 7th of March. In this blog post I'll list my questions, as well as the audio clips which I will use in my interview.
Section 1 - Memories
1. What kind of music do you listen to? How does this music make you feel?
2. What hobbies do you have currently? Do you think there are certain sounds you
associate with that activity?
3. Tell me a memory you have associated with a family member - this can be positive or
negative.
4. If you had to recall certain sounds that made you think of school or your youth what
would it be?
5. What do you think of when someone mentions electronic music?
Section 2 - Sounds
I’m going to play you a series of audio clips. There are a total of 15 clips, each approximately
30 seconds in length. For each audio clip, please answer the following questions.
1. What is one image you associate with this audio clip?
2. What is one word that best describes how you feel about this clip?
3. Please tick the box that best suits your stance.
The audio clips I intend to use in my interview can be found here.
This isn't the first time I've had to write questions for a survey or an interview. I think that even though applying for ethics clearance is such a pain, and doesn't seem to be encouraged by the majority of lecturers here at UH, it's still a valuable experience trying to figure out how to write the right questions to find the answers you need. In applying for ethics clearance, I've needed to learn to be mindful in phrasing questions properly, to respect the rights of interviewees and gain their consent, to pay attention to data collection and storage, and to ask the questions I need without wasting my time or the interviewees' time.
Interview Questions:
Thank you for agreeing to participate in this. This interview will be semi-structured, so there are a few basic questions but we might sometimes expand further on specific answers.Section 1 - Memories
